Scope & Content This collection is comprised of pamphlets, programs, correspondence, books, legal documents, photographs and several scrapbooks related mostly to the life of Mathilda Brodin, though several books belonged to August Brodin. Most non-photographic materials document Mathilda's work with various aid and cultural societies in the Twin Cities and her involvement in Swedish American celebrations and events. Photographic materials largely document unidentified people and places, presumably related to the Brodin family.
Biographical Information August and Mathilda Brodin were born in Sweden (August born October 28, 1878) and emigrated to the United States. Throughout the early- to mid-20th century they lived on Bloomington Avenue in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mathilda Brodin was an active member of the American Swedish Institute, the Swedish American Welfare Society, the Northwest Grand Lodge of the International Organization of Good Templars, and was a frequent participant in various Swedish American activities around the Twin Cities. They had one son, Carl G. Brodin.
