Scope & Content This collection includes autobiographical materials created by Carl Hjalmar Anderson and genealogical information about his family. These materials include a short typewritten autobiography by Carl in 1966, a more extensive autobiography recorded on an audio cassette in 1973, and a transcription of the 1973 audio cassette created by Carl's son Edward Anderson. Also included are short biographical 'sketches' about Carl's close relatives and genealogical charts and information, written by Edward Anderson.
Biographical Information Carl Hjalmar Anderson was born in Högsater parish in the province of Dalsland, Sweden in 1894. In 1914 he emigrated to the United States and traveled to Minnesota following his brother Helgo. He worked in various areas around Minnesota for several years, then took classes and worked in Chicago, Indiana, Wisconsin and Illinois through 1920 and gained experience with engineering and especially electrical work. He married Cora Magnuson in Chicago in 1925 and they had 2 children. Carl was laid off after the 1929 crash and had to leave to find work in California. He moved back to Chicago several years later and did electrical work for several companies. The family moved to Minnesota and later Michigan.
